Raise your hand if you LOVE talking about technical website details. Nobody? That’s what we thought!
As a business owner, though, it’s important to make sure you understand a few of these details — at least at a high-level. We’re going to talk to you today all about your website domain and website host. We promise it won’t be too scary or boring!
Your website domain is where your clients go to find your website — simple as that! If they go to www.yourphotographybusinessname.com, the “yourphotographybusinessname.com” is your domain name. Many domains are registered on websites like Squarespace, GoDaddy, or Whois.
Your website hosting is where you go to build everything and make your website found online — simple as that! Common website hosts include Squarespace, Showit, and WordPress.
To make this totally fun and less boring, here are some fun ways to remember the difference between these domains + hosts:
• Home Sweet Home – Your domain is your address (how people identify where you’re located) and your hosting is your home (where all of your stuff actually is!)
• Call Me, Maybe – Your domain is your phone number (how people identify how to contact you) and your hosting is your phone (where people can find you + your phone number is connected to!)
• Hey, Mr. DJ (Keep Playin’ This Song) – Your domain is your ticket (how the scanner identifies you) and your hosting is the venue (where the event is happening!)
Check in to your website domain and host every so often to make sure all is well! Many of these companies offer specials and upgrades pretty regularly. The more bang for your buck you can get, the better!
See? We told you it didn’t have to be so scary and boring! 😉
